Diving Horse

ATLANTIC CITY – Steel Pier Associates maintains the goal of bringing back the Steel Pier to its original glory as the Showpiece of the Nation. Over the next three years, we will be making a three-year, 100 million expansion and renovation to create a destination that will be the centerpiece of Atlantic City’s revitalization plan.

The new Steel Pier will be a year-round venue, featuring new thrill-seeking rides; a new food court and arcade area; a nightclub, museum and retail entertainment space; and a 2000-seat ballroom. Also featured will be an amphitheater with acrobatic acts as well as the iconic diving horse act.

In the course of making the decision to include the diving horse, Steel Pier Associates conducted significant research into past practices, including speaking with people who were directly involved in the act that occurred in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Through this research, we determined there was no animal cruelty or abuse that occurred in the past. The new act will be humane, provide the horses first class care, operate under modern safety standards to protect both the riders and the horses and will not subject the horses to cruelty.

We understand and share the community’s concern regarding the inhumane treatment of animals. For the past 20 years, we have been dedicated to providing wholesome family entertainment in Atlantic City. We are committed to that goal and would never feature any act that would mistreat an animal.

We are excited about our detailed plans that will blend past iconic elements of the Pier with modern-day entertainment options. We will be unveiling those plans, as well as the specifics of the diving horse act, in the very near future. Though we are sensitive to the concerns of the public, we ask people to wait to see the entire plan before making an opinion about any of its components.
